The common core standards recognize the importance of rational numbers by by having a specific domain to focus on building this concept. During this session we will unwrap the meaning of the standards across multiple grades and connect this learning to topics such as ratio and proportions. We will build meaning of the ideas such as the meaning of a fraction to representing a value on a number line to operations to the connections to ratios and proportions. Participants will participate in multiple learning activities to experience the value of using multiple representations and the use of mathematical discourse.

(Formerly KPALSS) This non-evaluative walk through process is designed to collect building data on teaching and learning. The training will be divided into 2 sessions: Day 1 will be devoted to learning the process and practicing “walk-throughs” using videos. Day 2 is devoted to how to use the data. In between sessions, participants will practice walk-throughs in their own buildings, record the data, and bring their data back for review as part of the Day 2 training. Components of the walk through process are research based and directly linked between teaching and improved student achievement. They include Bloom’s Thinking Levels, Marzano’s 9 Effective Strategies; Multiple Intelligences; Effective Lesson Design; Differentiated Instruction, and Classroom Management.

DESCRIPTION:
This session is for DISTRICTS who would like their IIP reviewed by others (peers) to provide input and feedback regarding the components of the plan. This session is required for schools who have applied for Expected Gains. This session is optional for schools who have not applied for Expected Gains and Districts who are On Watch, but is considered to be best practice. What to Bring: 3 hard copies of the IIP; laptop that has an electronic copy of the IIP; no more than 3 team members.
